Germany-based Dr Oetker Group has completed the takeover process of Delhi-based Fun Foods. The Rs 110-crore acquisition was announced in 2008. The company is now looking at increasing its manufacturing capacity and setting up a new plant in Bhiwadi in Rajasthan by end-2012.
“The new plant will not only take care of the existing product portfolio, but will also manufacture Dr Oetkar’s food products which we will launch in a few months’ time. At present we have three plants — two in Uttarakhand and one in Rajasthan,” said Oliver Mirza, managing director of the newly christened Dr Oetkar India & Fun Foods. The company makes popular condiments including sandwich spreads, mayonnaise and sauces.
“The land for the plant is already in place. It is six times bigger than the area of the three existing plants put together. I would not be able to divulge the exact size and capacity now. But this plant will take care of the foods division of Dr Oetkar Group,” said Mirza. He did not divulge the investment involved for the upcoming plant.
The German foods company has other divisions including beer and wine business. “We are completely decentralised. In India, we are focusing completely on the food segment,” said Volkmar Preuss, board member and executive VP sales of Dr Oetker Global Food Division and director of Dr Oetker India & Fun Foods.
“In the last three years, we have learnt a lot about the Indian market. The business of sauces and dips is a local strategic core business. We have local strategic business in other countries too, such as muesli in Germany, nuts and pizza in Italy, and pastry in France. Within the next six months, we will launch some new products from our international portfolio,” Preuss said.
Dr Oetker India & Fun Foods is expecting to close this financial year at Rs 70 crore. Last financial year, the company had recorded revenue of Rs 53.4 crore. Almost 50 per cent of the company’s business comes from the B2B segment.
